Student Council

Student Council 2024/25

Nepal College of Management (NCM), promoted by Gurukul Education Foundation and affiliated with Kathmandu University (KU), was established in August 1999 with the goal of imparting excellent learning in business education. NCM, located at Dhobighat, is an educational institution of higher learning that holds a special place in Nepal's academic landscape. The students of NCM continuously strive to exceed standards of excellence, redefining them for themselves and future students. In our pursuit of academic and technological advancements, we also emphasize the importance of a healthy mindset and strong values. Along with holistic student grooming, we encourage intellectual activities that often extend beyond classroom boundaries. NCM also follows the Education Act 1998, which mandates that Boards of Management encourage and support student councils in their formation and operation.

The Student Council was first established in 2002 by the Department of Education and Science. It is a body of student leaders collaborating with an adult supervisor to positively impact the college, local community, and beyond. This representative body, elected by students, organizes social and extracurricular activities and participates in social programs.

According to the Working Group of the Student Council, the council serves as a platform for students to engage in school affairs, working in partnership with school management, staff, and parents for the benefit of the college and its students. NCM's Student Council, first formed in 2005, provides students with structured opportunities to collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators. Research shows that student councils improve academic standards and reduce dropout rates. The NCM Student Council helps students develop communication, planning, and organizational skills beneficial for their futures.

The Student Council at NCM identifies activities with management's consent, ensuring communication and consultation with all students, involving as many students as possible, planning and managing the council's yearly activities, and handling council funds responsibly. It allows students to take charge of projects and see them to successful completion.

How are the members chosen?

The Board of Management establishes nomination procedures. Third-year students nominate candidates for election, with election timing set by college management. Students are given ample notice to submit nominations. A preliminary meeting with the principal is required before the election. Students from BBA 2nd & 3rd year and BHM 2nd year can run for positions, while their non-candidate peers vote without bias. Voting occurs via secret ballot after classes, supervised by a designated teacher.
